Kurt Hammer comes from a bicultural background. His parents were Norwegian immigrants, and he was born and raised in California until his sophomore year in high school. As a teenager he sailed with his parents from California to Norway on a 45’ schooner. After 7 years in Norway, he returned to the US to attend UCSB majoring in Spanish. Mr. Hammer earned his teaching credential at CSUCI and began teaching at César Chávez Charter School in 2003.

He is married to Jacki Hammer and they have three sons, Danny, Steffen, and Jakob.

He loves spending time with his family, reading books in English, Spanish and Norwegian, as well as playing and coaching soccer, sailing, gardening, traveling, playing music, and cooking.
